ABOUT
Hansel was born in India, grew up in the suburbs of London and currently resides in Bristol. He studied English and Film at Queen Mary University of London with essays published in the Film Matters journal. Since graduating, he has worked as a freelance editor working with brands and documentarians and he is constantly developing and directing films that he is passionate about. With a keen interest in both documentary and scripted filmmaking, Hansel loves working on accessible, cinematic stories that are hopeful, multi-tonal and focus on the nuanced, messy lives we all lead. He is being mentored by Louis Bhose and Nichola Wong. Hansel is also a big Arsenal fan and has a crazy cocker spaniel called Juno.

​​​Joint winner of the Dreammakers competition as chosen by Oscar-nominated director J.A. Bayona (The Impossible, Jurassic World, Society of the Snow) and actor Daniel Brül (Inglorious Bastards). With co-writer and co-director Lizzie Atherton, shooting wrapped in March 2025. Homing stars BAFTA-nominated Amit Shah (Happy Valley, Mr Bates vs the Post Office), Laura Aikman​ (Gavin and Stacey) and Nima Taleghani (Heartstoppers). It is due to premiere at Sitges Festival.

King Putt won best documentary at the BIFA qualifying Crystal Palace Film Festival, receiving the award from actor Kerry Godliman (After Life, Derek). This is the third award on the festival circuit so far. Hansel is working with the Emmy Award-winning Ventureland Studios on distribution.

2023 winner of the Emerging Voices Foundation for the short film An Indirect Message he co-created with Ieuan Coombs.​

As chosen by judges including Robbie Ryan and Asif Kapadia Hansel was one of the winners of the Straight 8 competition where his team's Super 8 film Horse Play was screened at Cannes Film Festival.
